Working Bee planned for Sunday 26 August
Unlike today (in Melbourne – cold rain and a maximum of 8° Celcius – this day is expected to be a warm 18 degrees with 1% chance of rain. Additionally after consulting the lunar gardening calendar for Melbourne – It is fortuitous for growing and planting – the moon will be full and it is also a good time to fertilise. The moon is in Aquarius, but confusingly it is not the best time to water (but the next day is so I will take that on and do it on Monday 27 August). Hope to see you there… What to plant? Beetroot, Silverbeet, Cabbage, Carrot, Capsicum, Chillies, Celery, Coriander, Dill, Eggplant, Lettuce, Parsley, Parsnip, Pumpkin, Squash, Radish, Rocket, Rockmelon, Watermelon, Spring Onion, Strawberry, Tomato and Turnips… I don’t think pumpkin and watermelon are options for the private plots… a rogue pumpkin plant in the community garden might be interesting.
Now on a less interesting technical note, FaceBook is changing (or rather removing) the ability to automatically publish to a personal timeline – which is what I sometimes do. It does allow you to publish to a page that is created within a personal Facebook profile. Why? to guard us against bad folks I think… Anyway, the upshot is that I have created a page where these blog posts land… That means you can either subscribe to this blog, or subscribe to the page… which is https://www.facebook.com/xsymetrix or if I think I know you well enough… you might get an infrequent MailChimp Newsletter in your mailbox – which you can unsubscribe from at any time… This is just about sharing stories, purely social and not commercial…
Although I have published links to the lunar planting calendar before, Here it is again and as an added bonus for the data devourers – I include the link to the trees database for the City of Melbourne and also a link to a photographic survey of houses in the suburbs of Kensington and Flemington compiled from the mid 80’s.
