Although a number of our urban farmers have moved on from the plots, they remain and continue to provide vegetables to their gardeners and foraging city dwellers.

Where it all began. Davis St Garden gets mapped out.

As an extension to the physical presence the garden provides on Davis St to the community of residents and visitors, I have decided to create an information app that visitors can download and interact with the garden and potentially its gardeners. Whether it is leaving a note in an electronic guest book or searching for details about vegetables or plants growing in the plot, I hope this additional experiment may provide some additional talking points for parents who often take their children to walk around the plots that make up the Davis St Community Garden.

Next to the garden is the Kensington community compost which is frequented by local contributing their scraps that would normally go as wet waste into the weekly garbage collection.

QR Code for this page

I will be placing QR codes on the plots, starting with my own plot and folks will be able to use their own QR code reader on their phone (there are many free QR code reader apps to download) or once I have completed the app, you can use that to investigate items in the garden. The idea is that the QR codes will be attached to plots and also next to plants in the gardens for people to look up information about what they are, growing tips and of course harvesting and uses in the kitchen.

If you scan the code on the left, it will take you to this page.

The garden uses a wicking bed concept which has advantages and disadvantages.
