It is hard to think that we are three quarters of our way through the first year of living our shared dream of Joe attending Melbourne High. A bit like our Davis Street garden, his efforts through three terms have borne fruit. He is attending a karate seminar this week which has Australian significance and it will be a chance for Joe and us to catch up with friends from as far as Sydney and Darwin. We are hosting one of the lads from Perth and Joe&#8217;s good friend Ryan will be here as well. Additionally the Grand Master HC Hwang will be coming from Korea. This is very fitting considering Joe will be sitting for his black belt in karate at the end of the year. As part of that, he has to attend a first aid course which will provide him with another skill.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>His rowing continues to be a foundation sporting activity and as I write this he has just left for training conditioning that&nbsp;continues through the school holidays (which he is in now). Additionally he has applied for one of four Junior School Captain positions. Unlike other schools where a handful may apply, I understand that up to 80 of the 300 or so boys have applied which is astonishing.<\/p>\n<p>When I left for Darwin some 3 months ago, we were in the midst of winter. All of the deciduous trees in the park opposite our house stood bare, forcing the angry <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Common_myna\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Indian Myna<\/a>&nbsp;birds to find another location to roost. The wonder of nature meant that upon my return all these trees were lush with a new set of leaves.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise the garden established at the end of our street was bursting with greenery &#8211; most of it edible.
